South African Wilderness Rescue

This is the public side of the Wilderness Rescue Database.

This database is a project to assist wilderness rescue (mountain, K9, off-road, cave) teams in keeping track of their members and activities using a common database so that cross-organisational information is automatically maintained. It is hoped that this database will assist in a number of ways. A major by-product of this is detecting trends which will help :
  • Rescue teams to focus training on scenarios they're likely to face
  • Mountaineering instructors to improve training in problem activities
  • Mountain rescue teams to tailor technical equipment and medical supplies.
  • Land owners to detect high-frequency accident or 'get-lost' areas and adjust signage / maps
This database, in turn, feeds data into the South African Mountain Accidents (SAMA) database.

This database is used by a number of rescue teams.
